COMBATING INJUSTICES AND IMPROVING OUTCOMES THROUGH MEDICAL RESEARCH

IN THE UNITED STATES, BLACK BIRTHING PEOPLE FACE SIGNIFICANT HEALTH DISPARITIES DURING PREGNANCY AND BEYOND. BLACK BIRTHING PEOPLE ARE 3-4x MORE LIKELY TO DIE IN CHILDBIRTH OR OF PREGNANCY-RELATED COMPLICATIONS COMPARED TO WHITE BIRTHING PEOPLE.

With an interest in exposing the impact of structural and institutional racism on health outcomes and the use of social media in healthcare, Dr. Jasmine Johnson utilizes her research to identify strategies to eliminate health disparities and better use technology to increase access to quality care. She hopes to leverage research as a powerful act of resistance, education, and mobilization for change in the name of Black maternal health.
